Petro-armageddon: $500/ barrel oil in several years

So, you may or may not have read the recent article in the Belfast Telegraph "Opec warns oil prices could rocket to $500 a barrel"

Where we read:

Iran's OPEC governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi has warned oil prices could reach as high as $500 per barrel in a few years' time if the US dollar falls further and political tension worsens.

Help me envision the very worst!!

Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 12:36:33 PM PDT

As many of you know, I live in Massachusetts.  The farmers almanac says that this winter season is going to be a doozy (colder, more snows, especially in Feb).

Blizzard 2007: 5:12 - still snowing

There is some rumblings amongst the MA state gov re: "warning" people that their oil heating bills are going to be "bad" this year but I have not heard of any solutions.  I think congress just underfunded LIHEAP so dont look for federal help.  This is simply talk talk talk, where are the initiatives?

I need help envisioning how this all might play out.

"Clop clop clop" the noise droned her to a quiet meditation as she and the horse lurched ahead of the others, a bit of a trot into some shade both she and the animal appreciated. Their makeshift wagon carried baskets, covered by white cloths, filled with aged goats cheese and fresh bread. She had pulled these toothsome grainy loaves from their earthen bread oven that morning, ducking as the poof of hot moisture blasted past the broken clay seal on the door.

Help! I can’t see benefit of NYC $15M Waterfalls!

Fri Jun 27, 2008 at 10:30:34 AM PDT

Help! I am feeling mighty grumpy and curmudgeonly because I find this whole NYC Waterfalls project by Olafur Eliasson and company (which cost $15 MILLION USD) grossly inappropriate for these times of recession, global upheaval, oil shock, and peak oil.

Warning: HIGH PATHETIC QUOTIENT

Tue Oct 04, 2005 at 08:43:16 PM PDT

Quote DKos comments as primary source?  That is freaking pathetic.. I had to share this with you all..  Apparently our comments are pulled from here and quoted in columns as if they are evidence of the thoughts of the whole left.

Yeah yeah, some of you will comment that this has been going on for ages.. I just gotta say, its PATHETIC.  I am talking to YOU Mr. Lifson, as you pour over our comments, dry-washing your creepy little paws, looking for more "primary material" to quote. (Oh, if I had not said it yet, dude, you have GOT to get a life.. your PATHETIC).

See below for our PATHETIC boy in action.

Tue Aug 30, 2005 at 02:04:40 PM PDT

Hello all, I need your help!

We are amassing quite a few first-person shots of Hurricane Katrina at our photo-log site, visit and share please!

I ask for your first person shots that deal with the evacuation, hunkering down, aftermath, survival, etc.

We are also linked to the growing efforts to provide pictures of the missing to help people looking for loved ones.

A direct link to that work is: Missing Persons.

Update [2005-8-30 17:14:47 by nika7k]:Several founders and members of the South East Asian Earthquake and Tsunami blog & wiki (tsunamihelp.info), which gained worldwide attention in the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004, have remobilized on 3 continents to aid in Hurricane Katrina. Please check out our efforts at katrinahelp.info and add any useful information there!

Update [2005-8-30 17:10:7 by nika7k]: This is a screenshot I captured from CNN to show something I never thought possible, the twin spans WASHED OUT. It was always sorta scary to drive there, with the wind gusts. Video shows EMPTY cars on some of these broken segments, where are the people?

Update [2005-8-29 11:25:25 by nika7k]: I have been listening to NO TV by streaming feed and they seem to have been knocked out (they are now in Mississippi to "get out of the storm track")

There are several people who are blogging from the areas affected by Katrina. (This is all thanks to the blog digging by a fellow flickerian at our "Hurricane Katrina" flicker photo-blogging group).

I thought I would share something I found online.

Those of you that are interested, opine away.

I am a Zen Existentialist and have been, admittedly in an un-zen like way, allowing certain concepts to percolate into my philosophical thought-paths these days.

Core talking point - Schiavo

Fri Apr 01, 2005 at 06:59:24 AM PDT

Jeff Greenfield on CNN just now said, with respect to recent Delay and other republican punditry's push to FEDERALIZE right-to-life (right-to-die) cases: (paraphrasing here)

If you cant trust the government with your money, how can you trust them with you life?

This has GOT to resonate with the conservatives who want smaller gov.  This is not about 911, not about the War on Terror (sic), this is about you and me.  I think the polls show they get it.. they need to hear

If you cant trust the government with your money, how can you trust them with you life?

over and over and over.

A Modest Proposal

Mon Mar 28, 2005 at 06:57:28 PM PDT

Our great country has jumped the shark.

In understanding this at an intuitive level, we can begin to make our own way in the current and coming trials.  What that way is will be unique to each of us.

I sense that there really is little we can do to heal our collective soul other than the following:

  1. Frogmarch every single senator and representative in every state and in the US Congress out the door and into waiting buses.

  2. Drive said buses to isolated containment facilities, not unlike Guantanamo Bay, and maintain 24/7 electronic monitoring on these common criminals.

  3. Choose the 3rd and 4th grade girls and boys with the best grades in each state and repopulate the state and national legislatures and senates.

  4. Make sure they still do their homework.

Gannon-connection? R. Gregory Stevens Republican media adviser found dead

Sat Mar 05, 2005 at 04:56:00 AM PDT

This may be old news but I wonder if this is fallout for intense internal backlash for closeted repubs?

Republican media adviser found dead

By Stephanie Mansfield
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Republican media adviser R. Gregory Stevens, who recently served as co-chairman of the Bush/Cheney Entertainment Task Force, was found dead Saturday in the Hollywood home of actress Carrie Fisher.

"He passed away here, and in a place where he was loved," Miss Fisher said yesterday from her home in Los Angeles.

Mr. Stevens, 42, was scheduled to attend the Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night and was staying with Miss Fisher at the time of his death. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said yesterday that the cause of death was unknown, pending results of toxicology tests.
